Although I typically focus on physical product and spatial design, digital design is an area I enjoy learning about. I designed the Folk app concept—along with this portfolio website—as a passion project to practically explore UX/UI and expand my technical capabilities.
Authentic Community
Welcome to Folk, the app for kindred spirits. Folk addresses the changing needs of modern social media users who are increasingly seeking platforms that prioritize privacy, authenticity, and highly specific niche communities.
Whether you're attending a sell-out concert, a local trivia night, or a neighborhood yoga class, Folk makes it frictionless to connect with fellow attendees, removing the barrier of awkward introductions and facilitating genuine, shared experiences.
01. Presence
Check-in to Events
Users virtually check-in to in-person events to register their attendance. This is achieved either by tapping their phone at a physical check-in post using NFC technology, or by utilizing geo-tracking to passively verify their location upon arrival.
02. Network
Connect with Attendees
Once checked-in, the digital barrier is lowered. Users can view a localized list of other verified attendees, making it safe and easy to send connection requests to like-minded people sharing the exact same physical experience.
03. Identity
Personalize Your Profile
The user profile acts as a digital scrapbook. By automatically compiling checked-in events and user-generated media, the profile organically highlights genuine interests and experiences rather than curated vanity metrics.
04. Community
Share The Experience
Folk features a targeted social feed. Instead of broadcasting to the world, users share photos, videos, and comments directly with the localized community of people who attended the same event.
